The program of reception and care of immigrants includes a meeting, workshops, films, competitions and exhibitions (11/11/2009)

Highlights the intercultural meeting on 20 November |

The councilman of Social Policy and Welfare Mariana Gomez presented the activities that this last quarter of 2009 and first quarter of 2010 will be carried out within the Host Program and Care of Immigrants.

Most activities are directed at the general population, all ages, within the integration policies developed by this council.

Stresses the Intercultural Encounter 'The world in your place' to be held on 29 November at the Paseo Poet Lorenzo Guardiola.

There will also be workshops, school support, radio talk shows, movies, competitions, course of Castilian and photo exhibitions.

Mariana Gomez noted that such activities but are framed within this program, "are activities which by their nature intercultural and integration, are open to all kinds of people, except some that come funded by the Directorate General of Immigration and a specific program for immigrants are dedicated exclusively for the collective. "

One activity that is already underway is the School Support and Service Toy Library, which is being developed in the Multipurpose Center Barrio de Santiago and the College of Our Lady of the Assumption.

It consists of formal support workshops for all children, and develops on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 16-18 h.

One of the innovative activities are workshops on Health and Culture, aimed at the general population, which began developing last week, every Tuesday morning or afternoon.

These workshops are intended to help the immigrants learn our culture and our eating habits and hygiene.

Are taught by professionals from various fields and in collaboration with the Health Center.

With Radio Jumilla is collaborating with information on Thursday morning in Arabic.

November 14 will be held on Reception in the Classroom.

The council has said "that this activity aims to all immigrant children who are entering for the first time the educational system of Jumilla, with a reception and welcome activity to feel integrated."

The program includes another new feature that will be the Occupational Training workshops aimed at people of working age, both immigrants and nonimmigrants, with the aim of enabling the workforce to perform a job.

The last week of November will celebrate the Intercultural Encounter in collaboration with the social work of the CAM, with activities such as a radio talk in order to present different aspects of cultures that are living together in Jumilla, in which be discussed cuisine of different countries, festivals and folklore and couples.

These activities culminate on 29 November will Intercultural Encounter in the Paseo Poet Lorenzo Guardiola, with the participation of 15 associations environment, both of Jumilla and outside, with exhibitions of traditional costumes, handicrafts, food tasting, dances and performances theater.

The councilman of Social Policy has reported that for these and other activities taking place throughout the year within the Host Program, it has a total annual funding of 230,000 euros, of which 75% are contributed by the autonomous region which in turn receives funding from the Ministry of Labour and Immigration, and the other 25% is funded by the city of Jumilla.
