Recently the president of the Community, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, presented studies to the construction of the Northern Highway, which connects Andalusia and Valencia in the interior of the region as an alternative to travel through the Mediterranean motorway (A- 7) and halve the current travel time between Caravaca de la Cruz and Jumilla.
According to information provided by the President of the Autonomous Community, this work has been divided into two sections: Caravaca, Calasparra, Calasparra and Jumilla.
The first was initially approved in May 2008 and currently is being prepared for planned route.
Regarding the section that affects Jumilla, the Directorate General of Highways of the Ministry of Public Works and Planning has completed the drafting of the study report.
In this regard, the Mayor of Jumilla Francisco Abellán has shown their discomfort as "leave this motorway stretch-Jumilla Venta del Olivo to the end with what Jumillano not have this fast track until at least 2014."
Abellán Valcárcel added that "trick again Jumillano and lack of their commitment to the Ministry of Development, as, according to the protocol signed between the President and the Minister Magdalena Alvarez, the stretch-Venta del Olivo Jumilla should have been tendered before the sale of the Olive-Caravaca.
The mayor insists that "the president does not recognize that the dates wrong, as in 2007-2008 had to advertise the tender for the highway Jumilla-Venta del Olivo, and not now in 2009, and what is advertised the bidding for the highway Caravaca-Calasparra-Venta del Olivo leaving the last section of Venta del Olivo-Jumilla the end, it is not the same as having dual carriageway in 2010-2011 than in 2014, when we will have the Jumillano "
The maximum local authority ends by stating that "in my capacity as mayor and in my capacity Jumillano Valcárcel affirm that fool again and again harm the interests of the Jumillano to benefit the Northwest region."
