The Ministry of Agriculture and Water has taken samples to check if the wood is affected by the disease, which poses a serious threat to the forests of the European Union
The action is part of a plan to combat this disease at the national level, which is currently documented in Portugal
Civil Guard officers and inspectors of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water in the Region of Murcia, restrained yesterday, in the so-called "OPERATION MADEIRA", some 25,000 kilos pine from Portugal and had as target their use in the production process of a merchant in the town of Jumilla.
The transport was stopped at a traffic lane as it passes through the town of Yecla (Murcia), when the agents were conducting a checkpoint for this type of transport together with the autonomous plant health inspectors.
Having determined that the wood was covered by the mandatory plant passport which guarantees medical treatment against the pine wood nematode (Bursaphelenchus xylophilus) and, moreover, that the goods had symptoms of the possible existence of this species, we proceeded to immobilization injunction.
Plant Protection Services of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water of the Autonomous samples to confirm or refute the possible suffering of the plague in the frozen wood.
The action is part of the Plan to combat diseases caused by known as "pine wood nematode, launched by the Civil Guard in the entire country because of the collaboration request has been received from the authorities on plant health, to address the serious threat posed by this disease to the mountains of the European Union, and whose existence is documented at this time in Portugal.
