On Friday, coinciding with the start of Holy Week Jumilla, opened the monument of the Nazarene.
This is a sculpture, natural size, representing a Nazarene who carries a child in her arms and as stipulated by the board "represents a Fiesta of National Tourist Interest in recognition of his great attachment to the soul Jumillano along their 6 centuries of existence. "
The monument, located in Constitution Square in front of the headquarters of the Central Board of the Brotherhood of Holy Week, is made of bronze and has been prepared by the renowned sculptor José Antonio Hernández Navarro Murcia.
It costs 30,000 euros and was financed entirely by the city of Jumilla.
Is made following a motion passed unanimously by all political groups in 2001.
The event was chaired by the Mayor of Jumilla Francisco Abellán together with the Counsellor of the Easter Jorge Oliva, the president of the Central Board of the Brotherhood of Holy Week and the sculptor José Carrión José Antonio Hernández Memorial Navarro.
Also attending were leaders and members of the Central Board of the Brotherhood, as well as various council members and semanasanteros Jumillano corporation.
The mayor of Jumilla stated in his speech that the origin of this monument is a unanimous agreement made in plenary.
He also recalled that the Central Board prepared a sketch of this monument so that there was no problem of how to express that feeling by Easter Jumilla, the sketch was approved by the Department of Culture which is the architect of this monument and is then commissioned the sculptor.
Abellán congratulated the artist of this sculpture and all Jumillano and Jumillano "since Easter is a tradition deeply rooted in the locality."
For his part, José Antonio Hernández Navarro, who has already made other sculptures for Jumillano brotherhoods, expressed his satisfaction at having done this work for Easter Jumilla it believes is the best Easter Region of Murcia " .
José Carrión said that the sculpture is "something different from other works because it combines past and present, faith, popular religion, art and culture, forgiveness and tradition, ultimately the deepest feelings of generations of Jumillano forever cast in bronze ".
