The region produces photovoltaic solar energy to supply 110,000 homes and is leading the country with 275 megawatts (25/10/2008)

The Minister of Universities and Research Company, Salvador Marín, today opened the first solar plant in Murcia COAG-IR and announced that the region produces enough solar energy to supply 110,000 homes.

Furthermore, the implementation and networking of this new facility, the Region is over 275 megawatts of installed power at the head of the national energy production.

In this sense, Salvador Marin said that "thanks to the support being made by the regional government and initiatives like the COAG-IR Murcia, with the creation of this new solar garden three megawatts of power, the region is leading the national photovoltaic solar energy production, with facilities annually generate 440 million kilowatt hours and prevents the emission into the atmosphere of 220,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide.

Moreover, despite the new central government decree punishes photovoltaics, there is another 767 projects underway to install 249 megawatts. "

The growth and development of photovoltaic industry in the region has been spectacular during the past two years, growth that places Murcia among communities a greater extent this clean energy generated in qualitative terms.

"In the Region of Murcia we have excellent conditions for solar energy production, which has attracted significant investment and develop the industry based on technological innovation and environmental friendliness.

On average, the region receives about nine kilowatt hours per square meter per day, which is the energy equivalent to nearly two barrels of oil per square meter per year, "said Minister of Universities, Business and Research.

The solar garden COAG-Murcia 'Solar Fields' is located in the hamlet Azuara House of Jumilla, boasts a capacity of three megawatts and is owned by 112 partners, all residents of the region, farmers mostly.

The solar plant occupies 100,000 square meters distributed in 112 different power plants.

Its design has taken into account the maximum use of daylight hours and radiation.

In addition, the facility has a sotfware for communication and real-time control of production, which warns of any event.

This solar plant will improve the supply of electricity in the area and generate 4.8 million kilowatt hours per year.

In addition, it allows the entry of at least 2,160,000 million euros a year in this agricultural area.
