Jumilla hosts a course at the University of the Sea on 'Archaeology of Death " (22/08/2008)

The councilman of Culture Joan Guardiola, Vice Chancellor of University Extension of the UMU Guillermo Diaz and director of summer courses at the Universidad Internacional del Mar Eduardo Osuna had, officially, the course will be developed in the near Jumilla September.

This is the first time the municipality is home to one of the summer courses at the Universidad del Mar. The course, which will take place from 15 to 19 September, will be on 'Archaeology of Death: La Cultura Ibérica.

The course is aimed at students, graduates and people interested in the subject.

Aims to examine the historiography on the Archaeology of Death in the Iberian culture, "separating the current trends of research in this area."

The same way we value the importance and current status of the issue concerning the Iberian funerary rites in the Region of Murcia.

Will be held at the House of Culture, its duration is 30 hours and tuition is charged at 95 euros.

In the presentation of the course, Eduardo Osuna showed the satisfaction of having Jumilla to host a course at the University of the Sea, "which is one city that wanted to get inside the venues according to their importance and the number of students that each day more. "

For the course that hosts Osuna Jumilla is "very interesting for the relief of the speakers, not only of Murcia, but from the Complutense University and Autonoma de Madrid, Barcelona and the University of Granada, among others."

The course includes in addition to various lectures, talks and debates, a series of visits to the Archaeological Museum of Jumilla, Murcia Archaeological Museum and the archaeological site of Coimbra del Barranco Ancho.

The head of the summer courses of the Universidad del Mar also stressed that the courses are not only for college students but any citizen who wants to pursue the subject of archeology in the Iberian period may enroll.

Finally, he thanked the municipality of Jumilla "the excellent cooperation, enthusiasm and commitment they have shown when Jumilla incorporate in the curriculum of the summer courses."

The Vice Chancellor of University Extension of the UMU indicated that within the policy that the University of Murcia has concerning the presence in the various municipalities in the region, "incorporates Jumilla and becomes part of the academic world as we understand it ".

Diaz noted that one of the goals that makes the University of Murcia, "as a public service that we are", is to meet the obligations of this public service, "so they are taking various initiatives and one of them is the International University Sea, which this year celebrates 25 years and within this initiative have sought municipalities to share with us the goal that the university can provide and improve quality of life of citizens, as well as training and education a must for all. Finally, the councilman of Culture expressed its gratitude to the University of Murcia Jumilla for having accepted one of their headquarters and expressed his satisfaction at having participated in the initiation of these courses in Jumilla with "the intention, by the municipality, to remain home and to be increasing over the years courses.
