The craftsman Francisco Jimenez returns to delight us with their knowledge of the Esparto (01/02/2016)

Esparto craftsman, Francisco Jimenez Molina, returned to delight this weekend with their knowledge on the matter by offering a workshop in which the history and ways of working with this material are protagonists.

It was held in the hall of esparto ethnography section of the Municipal Museum Jerónimo Molina de Jumilla and this time were 15 people who were interested in this craftsmanship that was so important to the economy of the town until the middle of last twentieth century.

Students had the opportunity to work in twines, belts, pleitas and more advanced in some small part, as some of them already had some skill to have participated in previous workshops.

Francisco Jimenez ensures that everyone can learn to make any type of piece by elaborate it, but it takes a lot of patience and dedication to get it.

Esparto was a flourishing industry since the nineteenth century until the mid-twentieth and thanks to that abounded in the hills of the town, which are mostly municipal property since the fourteenth century, Jumilla experienced a period of great economic development.

, Today however it has become a craftsmanship with which, according to the craftsman Francisco Jimenez, "and no one can live", although he, his more than 80 years, affects not miss based transmit their knowledge through courses and workshops.

He has received several awards for his work both in Jumilla and Murcia.
