A total of eight men at risk of social exclusion took part in the socio-therapeutic group intervention project "Personal development through chess," which was recently closed.
last March was started and has been run by professional Accompaniment Program for Social Inclusion of the Center for Social Services Jumilla, with the collaboration of Pascual Castellanos, president of the Association of Chess Coimbra.
There have been 16 meetings in order to support a group of men in situations of high vulnerability and social exclusion to participate in a group process that allows them to rediscover their potential and strengthen their emotional state (self-esteem, emotional control, maintenance of the action, the direction of attention ...) and closer to the various municipal social resources as a means of social integration.
The methodology has been to develop a weekly session of two hours, divided into two parts, the first focusing on the teaching chess and techniques and the second aimed to change and self-improvement, showing a new way of thinking, with the strategic approach that is inherent to the game of chess.
The level of beneficiary satisfaction has been high, largely fulfilling the objectives that the project posed:
To introduce a new way of approaching problems of life through a strategic concept, where the planning of actions themselves, change and self-improvement, the pursuit of achievement and responsibility for one's actions, as teaches chess , are the guide to follow.
-To Better social inclusion strategies and adopt healthy thinking.
-Teach And improving chess techniques and strategies.
