This week the conference was inaugurated around the Interpretation Centre Marquis of Villena (Center installed in the Torre del Homenaje del Castillo) which aims to make a journey through the history and evolution of the Castillo de Jumilla and their link to the Marquis de Villena .
The inauguration took place on Tuesday, by the Doctor in Archaeology Azuar Rafael Ruiz, Head of Unit for excavations and collections of the Archaeological Museum of Alicante (MARQ).
Specialist in archeology and Muslim history, especially of Levante Peninsular.
During his lecture he talked about "Jumilla, an Islamic castle on the border of conquering the kingdoms of Castile and Argon" in which he outlined the history of the castle of Jumilla during the Muslim period, one of the worst times of known strength.
Among the important and interesting data that contributed Azuar Dr. Ruiz, one of the highlights was the date of the possible construction of the Castillo de Jumilla, in the Muslim period, which was unknown to date.
The professor said that almost certainly built during the rule of the Almoravids, the early twelfth century.
It also provided new information about what it would look castle in the Islamic period and highlighted some features of its construction.
Continuing the cycle, yesterday took place the second round, this time with Juan Francisco Alcázar, Professor of Medieval History at the University of Murcia, who gave a lecture on the "territorial power and local Jumilla in the Marquis de Villena, XV and XVI "centuries.
The next conference will be Tuesday, April 28, and will focus on the Jumilla of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
