The mayor of Jumilla, Enrique Jimenez, and the president of Abraham Project, Nuria García, yesterday renewed the cooperation agreement between the City of Jumilla and the entity, to continue the system of selective collection of textiles, footwear and toys in different parts the municipality.
Around the town of Jumilla and districts a total of 27 containers for selective collection of clothes, shoes and toys are distributed.
In 2014 collected more than 52,000 pounds of waste through what has been achieved to avoid the emission into the atmosphere of 562,000 kg of CO2, which corresponds to almost 29 million trees absorb CO2 in a day and almost 98,000 cars removed circulation in a day, according to AERESS.
These results contribute, first, to preserve the environment, reinforcing the recycling and reuse thereof;
and secondly, to social work in the region and in Jumilla, promoting social and professional integration of people at risk or suffering from social exclusion, and access to clothes, shoes and toys from families with low incomes.
Among the actions developed by Abraham Project in Jumilla, stand apart from the separate collection of clothes, direct actions such as lectures on environmental awareness and volunteer occupational training workshops and donating toys.
Since the cooperation agreement began, the association has developed four workshops socio-occupational training and Recycling Computers & Sewing Garment, Shoe Repair and Skills for the Labor Market in Jumilla.
Mayor Enrique Jimenez stressed "the importance of such actions, which enables one hand joining the social life of people at risk of social exclusion, in addition to providing basic resources such as clothing or footwear the most disadvantaged families, not to mention the environmental component of this project.
