The mayor of Jumilla, Enrique Jiménez yesterday held a meeting with the Director General of Industry, Energy and Mines, Alfonso Garcia, in which inter alia issues of local importance as a breakthrough in the study of the mineral resources of the addressed resort, a geological study of the Cerro del Castillo de Jumilla, and Jumilla, as free municipality of fracking.
Jumilla, free town of fracking
During the meeting, the mayor of Jumilla conveyed his concern to find gas prospecting in the subsoil, known as fracking practice, on which Enrique Jimenez, the CEO recalled that the full City Council approved in May 2013, declaring the municipality free of this practice of extracting gas.
Regard Alfonso Garcia said Jumillano alderman in Directorate General of Industry has not made any application involving the municipality to carry out studies designed to prove the existence of shale gas.
And said that the draft preliminary studies that have been granted by both the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism and the Ministry, not use 'fracking as practice.
In this sense, the mayor stressed "the commitment of the Community to when reporting whether any new license is granted, as they have ratified the Director General of Industry, Energy and Mines itself."
Moreover, yesterday, the result of the meeting, it was agreed to launch a joint committee formed by experts from both governments to address all actions related to exploitable resources of the mountains of Jumilla.
As highlighted by the Mayor of Jumilla, Enrique Jimenez, "another important conclusions that we carry is the commitment of the Community in promoting the quarries in Jumilla, as a source of wealth and economic engine for the town. As result of this commitment, we will create a joint committee, which will meet every 3 months to assess all topics of interest related to the mineral resources of Jumilla, study the simplification of procedures, and solve potential issues related to this industry in the municipality. "
Director of Industry and Jumillano alderman spoke about the need to update information on the relationship of mining rights concerning the mountains of the resort to make a catalog of the mineral resources of Jumilla.
The question is why there are mineral rights on land and see if they can offer to increase and companies interested in the exploitation of resources, mainly imperial marble variety.
Both administrations, local and regional (through the general directions of Industry, Mines and Energy and the Environment) had technical contacts to expedite the processing of administrative procedures for granting operating licenses.
In this sense, a technical committee to discuss the situation regarding the quarries and see if you can implement new companies interested in the extraction of ornamental stone, a resource that grows in the mountains of the municipality will be created.
Geological Survey of the Cerro del Castillo de Jumilla
Finally, the general manager of Industry and Jumillano mayor discussed the possibility of conducting a geological study of the Cerro del Castillo de Jumilla.
In this regard, Alfonso Garcia said that "we will get in touch with the Geological Survey to see if there is any study on the area and if there is it available to the municipality of Jumilla."
