The Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Enterprise and Innovation, through the Directorate General of Industry, Energy and Mines, and the city of Jumilla will launch a joint committee composed of experts from both governments to address all resource-related actions exploitable in the mountains of Jumilla.
This was agreed today the CEO, Alfonso Garcia and Jumillano mayor, Enrique Jimenez, at a meeting at the Directorate General of Industry, Energy and Mines, in which they dealt with the technical collaboration in various aspects of the field and Jumilla resources.
Director of Industry and the mayor spoke about the need to update information on the relationship of mining rights concerning the mountains of the resort to make a catalog of the mineral resources of Jumilla.
The question is why there are mineral rights on land and see if they can offer to increase and companies interested in the exploitation of resources, mainly imperial marble variety.
Both administrations, local and regional (through the general directions of Industry, Mines and Energy and the Environment) had technical contacts to expedite the processing of administrative procedures for granting operating licenses.
In this sense, a technical committee to discuss the situation regarding the quarries and see if you can implement new companies interested in the extraction of ornamental stone, a resource that grows in the mountains of the municipality will be created.
The meeting also referred to the issue of surveys to find gas in the subsurface, a practice known as fracking.
In this regard, the mayor of Jumilla reminded the general manager that the full City Council approved in May 2013 declaring the municipality free gas extraction due to the wealth of existing aquifers in the area and the dependence of this resource is agriculture, which is the main activity of the municipality.
Alfonso Garcia said Jumillano mayor in the Directorate General of Industry has not made any application involving the municipality to carry out studies designed to prove the existence of shale gas, and said that the draft preliminary studies that have been granted both by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism and the Ministry, do not use 'fracking' as practice.
Also, the Director General of Industry and mayor discussed the possibility of conducting a geological study of the Cerro del Castillo de Jumilla in order to determine whether there may be risk of rockfall in the area.
In this regard, Alfonso Garcia said that "we will get in touch with the Geological Survey to see if there is any study on the area and, if any, made available the City of Jumilla."
