The Ministry of Agriculture and Water, through Murciano Institute for Agricultural Research and Development and Food (IMID), held tomorrow (at 10:30 pm in Finca La Maestra in Jumilla) the Twelfth Day of Group R & D Cerezo to show progress on the study of the behavior of 69 varieties including cherry collection, whose trees this year completed its sixth leaf.
Cherry cultivation sparked interest among farmers in the area for good adaptation of the most planted varieties, all grafted on Mariana broker pattern with Adara 2624, which is the combination which best Performance in the soils of the said estate.
The data obtained are used to recommend the best varieties in the region of Altiplano and can be extrapolated to other areas in the north of the Region of Murcia and neighboring regions.
The R & D Cherry Group is working on the introduction of this species in the region since it was formed in 2005. IMIDA It investigators, technicians of the District Agricultural Offices Counseling and integrate advanced farmers.
Cherry Project
The R & D project on introduction of the cherry in the Region of Murcia, led by IMIDA has established 3 variety collections located in different climate zones: La Alberca (Murcia), El Chaparral (Cehegín) and Jumilla and plantations reference monitoring plots and extended observation Murcia various counties.
The annual project results are disseminated through technical seminars, which are being conducted in different districts of the region in which it may be of interest this crop.
In them the opinions of the participants, allowing the interest rate shown on the varieties, after learning their behavior and production quality are collected.
The results of that R & D project are disclosed in annual reports that are disseminated mainly through Internet (www.imida.es) and are available to farmers, cooperatives and other agricultural and business organizations.
The project is financed with FEDER funds and aid from the Ministry of Agriculture and Water.
It has also been included in the COST Action FA 1104 'Sustainable production of cherry quality for European market', promoted in the framework of the European Union.
