The mayor of Jumilla, Enrique Jiménez and Councillor for Agriculture and Forestry, Francisco Martínez Escandell, showed this morning that the City rehabilitation of Jumilla has embarked on the Source of Siege.
Located in the Sierra de la Pedrera, is a historic site of great importance to the town because it has documented the oldest archaeological remains of Jumilla, some even from the Palaeolithic period.
According to the Mayor of Jumilla Enrique Jimenez, "it is a great performance that has restored an important historical site to Jumilla."
He adds that from a pedagogical point of view is also a step forward in that "now, school, jumillanos and visit may know where he was born Jumilla, and have thus present, this part so important to the history of the town."

Upgrading works
Given the historical importance of the whole, in 2010 the Directorate General for the Environment approved a grant of € 34,000 for rehabilitation and conservation work.
The project included the restoration of the old wall, protection and access control Cerrico Source, conditioning the environment and building a gazebo, and an access path to the Source.

Historical significance of the Fountain of Siege
The Source of the Siege were found the oldest archaeological remains of Jumilla, for both the Lower Paleolithic (120,000 BC) and the Middle Paleolithic (45,000 BC), along with the oldest remains of seed vine (Vitis vinifera sylvestris) all the Altiplano.
