The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, today in Jumilla accompanied by the Mayor of Jumilla, accreditation by the National Accreditation Body, ENAC, granted on 28 February Laboratory Jumilla Enológico dependent Murciano and Research Institute Agricultural Development and Food (IMID), which gives the official results of its validity.
The owner of Agriculture and Water congratulated those responsible for this laboratory whose function, he explained, is "making wine analysis and derivatives for export."
For this reason, adding that obtaining accreditation from the lab "will directly affect the wine producing sector in the region since many importers requiring that wine is recognized by an accredited laboratory."
For his part, Mayor of Jumilla, after congratulating the Ministry, and components to IMIDA Station for the important work being done in terms of improving quality controls, said this recognition "is to endorse, especially if possible, the excellent record that the laboratory has developed regarding the certification of samples. "
Moreover, he added, "we are very proud of the Center for Research in Jumilla are more than 100 years which is working on it for the quality of wines from Jumilla, and this accreditation is proud to confirm that they are doing things right. "
Adrian Martinez, director of IMIDA, highlighted the efforts that has led to the Wine Train technicians achieve this accreditation.
"It's a process that began six years ago but has now borne fruit. Accreditation certifies that the reports issued by the laboratory is valid worldwide and will be accepted by all importing countries of Spanish wine. The scope of accreditation includes 11 parameters, which are usually analyzed for samples of wines for export, such as alcoholic strength, relative density, density, total dry extract and total volatile acid, citric acid, methanol and total and free sulfur dioxide.
Program development of new varieties of grapes for wine
The Minister also recalled the importance of the research that "being made from IMIDA with universities to optimize the performance and quality of the grapes produced in the region and new varieties of wines from Monastrell ".
These works are part of the results of the program to obtain new varieties of grapes for wine, which have already been obtained with hybrid preselected wines made from Monastrell and Cabernet Sauvignon and Monastrell and Syrah, showing that grape is a suitable choice for combined.
