The official chronicler of Jumilla, Antonio Verdú, offered Thursday at the Cultural Hall CajaMurcia a conference in order to share the value and cultural tradition of Vico theater in our town, organized by the Department of Culture and collection in the calendar of activities for the first quarter.
Titled "What do we know Teatro Vico?" Antonio Verdú went back to his beginnings as Teatro de la Villa, making a historical journey through the becomings that have befallen the building, now considered of cultural interest in the monument category .
As explained by Antonio Verdú, Theatre opened in August 1883, the operetta "The Tempest" was the first play I saw the light inside.
Since then cultural life has always revolved around this theater, which borrowed the name linked to Murcia actor, Antonio Vico.
The official chronicler of Jumilla, attendees also revealed some curiosities like that had to be built in two phases, the first foundation was made, and took years before the second phase began, because what you had to readjust the initial project to continue, or lived the exchange, so that they had to reset the initial budget to change shields to pesetas.
The decor was done in only two months, and today is the theater of the Region's original elements preserved in its ornamentation.
