The Educational Support Program brings together university students to improve their performance (15/11/2013)

For months, the Youth Council has been working in the Educational Support Project aimed at children and young people in cultural disadvantage.

The project proposes a plan of educational support outside school hours, school run primary and first cycle of ESO, with the aim of preventing and reducing the problems of failure, absenteeism and drop occurring in the municipality.

As reported in this regard Youth Councilman Fernando Oñate, a computer problem in the Service of Social and Volunteer of the University of Murcia, a few days delayed the launch of the program, but once solved this, now available for all those college students who want to, can access it and register, through the UMU service, or at the Youth Council.

College students interested in participating, offer educational enrichment classes to students referred from schools for two weekly sessions of one hour and a half each, to encourage the promotion and personal integration of children and young people from the area school, family and society, through a process of capacity building.

It also helps prevent and reduce problems of failure, absenteeism and early school dropout.

Moreover, the program also benefits the college students responsible for providing tutoring classes, and interested persons will receive a certificate stating the hours of voluntary action, which can be validated later by a maximum of 4.5 free credits.

Moreover, the university will be trained and certified specifically for the proper performance of the activity, as well as support and advice for its development.

All those interested in attending college in the program should contact the Service to Diversity and Volunteerism at the University of Murcia, by telephone: 868 88 39 34 or email: voluntariado@um.es.

Also in the Youth Council of Jumilla situated in the garden of King Don Pedro, No. 9 left, or phone 968 78 04 86 e-juventud@jumilla.org.

As confirmed by the Councillor for Youth, someone sent a letter to schools informing and explaining the service which is the process for enrolling students who may need these services for educational support.
