The Mayor, as head of the Environment has reported the ban on using sewage sludge for agriculture or animal manure.
It is a real duty of the government to provide a solution to those problems of health and environmental character, as well as those that affect the general welfare of the citizens.
Among these health and environmental problems, it has been noted that the use of sewage sludge as organic fertilizer in agriculture may negatively affect summer period, in the quality of life of citizens, causing, in some cases, unpleasant odors and proliferation of flies and mosquitoes, especially when agricultural practice is not done properly.
This agricultural practice is carried out in recent years in various fields of this municipality, because the sewage produced thousands of tons of sludge with high fertilizing, used as a soil amendment because of its richness in organic matter and nutrients.
To a solution to this problem presented in summer, dated August 29, 2012, was published in the Official Bulletin of the Region of Murcia, the final approval of the Municipal Ordinance on Citizen Security, in which collected as a serious offense, Article 5.1.c), use of sewage sludge in agriculture or any animal manure during the months of June, July, August and September, with a fine of € 3,000.
However, during this summer period, and for output to the sludge generated by the station Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant, by municipal technicians has made an exhaustive study of the plots of the municipality in which sludge shall be released without endanger the public health of the citizens of Jumilla, and most distant from any dwelling.
As reported by the Mayor, also instructed the Seprona, the local police and Technical Service Environment of the City, to be particularly zealous in compliance with this ordinance.
Failure to comply will result in the imposition of sanctions and the adoption of measures that are appropriate measures.
