Runners in the test have been received at City Hall by Mayor Enrique Jimenez for Social Services Councillor John Calabuig and councilors of the corporation, also accompanied by Montse Mouriño, coordinator of Solidarity Tour VII Parkinson's, On the President of Parkinson OFF Murcia, Maria Dolores Lopez Noguera, family and Parkinson's disease, Parkinson's Association members and On-Off Bicisolidaria.
A group of cyclists from the town, Bacobike group, also accompanied the group on arrival in Jumilla, including the Councillor for Sports, Juan Manuel Abellan.
According Montserrat Mouriño, coordinator of the test, this is a difficult disease to detect symptoms other than tremor, which makes diagnosis more difficult.
Meanwhile, the mayor wanted to congratulate and welcome the participants, recalling the importance of knowing the disease, to recognize their symptoms and seek medical advice if they detect any of them.
Bicisolidaria Cycling Association, in collaboration with the Parkinson Association of On-Off of the Region of Murcia, are responsible for organizing this tour solidarity, where cycling fans will be part of this show of solidarity, covering about six hundred miles and for those who will visit various associations of Parkinson's, hospitals and authorities in different localities, with the sole aim of raising awareness and to involve the society from the consequences of this neurodegenerative disease.
According to testimony from Parkinson's patients and families, this is a tough disease, affecting the mood, speech, and ultimately to the realization of any daily activities normally.
They recalled the importance of tackling the disease since its inception and compatibility of drugs with complementary treatments such as physiotherapy or speech therapy, and to recognize the disease when one has no shame and ask for help.
The trial began last Sunday, leaving from Madrid to Murcia destination.
The tour is divided into six stages ending in Ocaña, La Roda, Albacete, Jumilla, Novelda and Murcia respectively.
Is scheduled on Thursday 12, at 9 in the penultimate stage start-Novelda Jumilla that depart from Ortega y Gasset, and participants will be escorted to Novelda, by a group of cyclists from the town.
The tour will end at the Plaza de la Glorieta de Murcia where he is scheduled to arrive on Friday 13, at 20 hours.
