Yesterday Wednesday, April 25, underwent surgery on a palm (Phoenix canariensis) in the garden of King
Peter, affected by red palm weevil (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus).
The action was conducted by a licensed professional Palmerero D.
Juan Diego Garcia Perez.
The surgery consisted mainly of removing all affected palms (rosigadas by caterpillars and the presence of galleries), and the removal of all affected buds, reaching the meristem healthy.
During this process they removed all of weevil larvae and adults as they appear.
Also performs a treatment of endo, consisting in placing the trunk of devices which are injected into the palm a nutritional complex together with an insecticide.
Subsequently performed a direct treatment to healthy meristem with fungicides to prevent the spread of fungus.
Finally we put a tube to spray-wash facilitator from the base of the palm, without ascending to the top of the tree.
For now, this is the only palm detected in a public place affected by weevil.
But on private property, and other cases have been detected, so it is requested that any person who has in his garden or private property palm passes the Agricultural Service (gardens) to advise and gather any information from the municipal technicians.
One of the actions to be taken by the Department of Gardens is developing an inventory of palm trees around the town, so that any citizen with palms must notify this office, to complete the Census form for palms.
