The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerda and President of the Regulatory Council of the Wines of Jumilla, Pedro Lencina, today introduced a wine from Jumilla Monastrell as official licensed product of the Royal Spanish Football Federation under the name 'Jumilla wines, the wines of the Red'.

This action arises from an agreement between the regulator and the Spanish Football Federation, which will allow this designation to bottle and market a red wine, vintage 2010, with a special label with the image of the Spanish National Team.

The Minister of Agriculture and Water stressed the "great initiative" of the DO Jumilla which, he said, "is going to place our wines at a great height."

Cerda said that "recognition of the region as a production area is widespread and valued in Spain and many other parts of the world", and stressed that this action to promote "expand the good image of our wine products."

The wine chosen was selected among the 45 wineries belonging to the Control Board in a blind tasting.

This wine has an intense cherry red color, with hints of red fruit accompanied by notes of wood, which has made a first batch of 14,000 bottles.

According to Cerdá, "is a well structured and balanced wine, which represents very well the characteristics of soil and climate of the area of ​​Jumilla."

According to the Regulatory Board, the Monastrell grapes were harvested in the second half of September, after controlled fermentation and maceration moderate.

The wine spent nine months in oak barrels.

President of the DO stressed that this action to promote "intend to do more home and Region", and stressed the need to "unify efforts and multiply."

Pedro Lencina confident that the "success" of this wine can be extended in parallel "to the 45 wineries registered with the Regulatory Board."

The counselor noted that "Jumilla is one of the oldest in Spain," as part of the 2,780 growers, 45 wineries and a total of 27,000 hectares, producing about 22 million liters of wine qualified.
