On Saturday May 7, Jumilla marks the first time, the 'Geolodía 11' with visits to the paleontological.
This day is celebrated exactly on Sunday May 8, but in Jumilla forward to Saturday so as not to coincide with the pilgrimage.
This will have scheduled visits to the sites of the Hoya de la Sima and Sierra de las Cabras, and the Museum of Natural Sciences of Jumilla.
Be in the morning at 10:00 and 12:00 hours in the afternoon at 17:00.
There will be a free bus service with 30 places for all concerned to come out from the door of the Casa de la Cultura half hour before the visit.
The tours are open to all audiences and is not necessary to register.
Will be guided by geologists belonging to various institutions, societies and associations, with stops teaching and explaining the geology of the site.
The 'Geolodía 11' is celebrated throughout Spain and in the case of the Region of Murcia is the first year it is organized and run by the Municipal Museum of Natural Sciences of Jumilla in collaboration with the Department of Stratigraphy Universidad Complutense de Madrid and the CSIC-UCM IFEO.
In recent years it has been celebrated in many Spanish places and this year has been consolidated with the participation of a total of fifty provinces.
The celebration of this day is intended to be an outreach initiative of geology through its most appealing aspects to the general public, with field trips.
The objectives are to discover the rich and varied geological heritage and awareness of the importance and necessity of protecting and promoting scientific careers of young people attending these activities.
Nationally, the promoters and organizers of this activity are the Geological Society of Spain (SGE), the Spanish Association for the Teaching of Earth Sciences (AEPECT) and the Geological Survey of Spain (IGME).
Is sponsored locally by municipalities and other entities and national level by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), Ministry of Science and Innovation.
