Jumilla has six new points of underground containers for waste collection (18/08/2010)

Last week was inaugurated by the Mayor of Jumilla Francisco Abellán, one of the first projects E2010 Plan has ended.

This is the installation of new points of underground containers for waste collection.

Alfonso was accompanied by English Construction Company representative Someda and Councilman Antonio Martínez Services.

A total of six new locations that are located in zone 1 Barón del Solar street intersection and Ronda Poniente Poniente zone 2 Round up to the Iron Bridge Area 3 Catholic Kings Avenue, Zone 4 at San Jose Avenue to the Garden height of San Juan, Zone 5 Calle Ingeniero de la Cierva and Zone 6 avenue de Levante, in the garden of King Don Pedro.

These join the existing four, which the city already has ten points.

The Mayor and Councillor for Works, Urbanism and Environment has said that "it is very important this type of action as these containers offer many advantages in that it prevents bad odor, improving the image of the city in this regard and also allows to reduce the vandalism on street furniture. "

"Indeed it is one of the first projects of the Plan E 2010 has concluded and that it has hired a total of ten unemployed workers for the time period that lasted the works, but have managed to give a little breathing room people who were unemployed and their families, "said Abellán.

Finally, the highest local authority has indicated that "over the coming months will be completing the remaining work undertaken that will provide various services to the city and many other improvements."

The work has been performed by the Someda Construcciones, SL, won by an amount of 138,075, resulting in a lower initial tender budget by 3.7%.

English Alfonso noted that these points of containers "have some stainless steel mailboxes, to be buried outside prevents dirt and odors are sealed, waterproof, with an engine room to access and with a capacity of 1,300 liters."

For his part, Councillor for Services said "we are thinking about hiring a company to clean the mailboxes container, which could also maintain the cleanliness of shelters at bus stops."

The works have included the supply and installation of a buried set of equipment consisting of collection boxes, lifting systems platforms, supporting elements and concrete pits which houses the assembly.

Such systems offer advantages such as mobility of the containers, in the occupation of public roads since they are often located on sidewalks, and mailboxes that take up very little space and does not reduce the space for parking and accessibility and the height of the mailbox (approx. 1 m) allow these to be used by persons traveling in wheelchairs.

Another advantage is the odor: the system of waste storage in underground containers uses the natural temperature of the subsurface soil (10-15 ° C).

The low temperature reduces significantly the process of fermentation and putrefaction of the waste, thus avoiding the characteristic odor of the summer months, volume of containers, to be buried can be placed large containers 3, 4 or 5 m3, lower frequency of collection, improved aesthetics and is able to decrease vandalism on street furniture.
