Since last July 3 in Jumilla is developing a free campaign to sterilize dogs and cats, by which it has managed to operate more than 500 animals.
This work was made possible thanks to an ambitious project developed by the Association Jumilla 4 Legs "with the collaboration of the Europäischer Tier und Naturschutz eV (TNCs), the European Association for Animal Protection and Environment, based in Germany.
For 'in situ' project, as well as the work develops Jumilla 4 feet at the Lodge Hall, this morning have moved to the premises Jumilla Mayor and Councilman Francisco Abellán charge of this area Primitivo Gonzalez.
Abellán said "at the time when the government team was raised to a building for thinking animals as proposed 4 feet, we were sensitive enough and believed in this project, to make this shelter, a place where they play a vital role and social awareness in society about the animals. "
Once this building was funded by the Plan E has taken stock of management that the mayor described as "very interesting, positive and effective."
The Mayor congratulated the work of the entire German team of veterinarians for this important work and the effort and dedication of the Association 4 feet.
For its part Irene Santos, president of 4 feet appreciated the work of the German organization and the support of the City by the sensitivity that has always had, "without this building we could make neither this nor any project and is one of Jumilla the few municipalities where there is a shelter like this. "
Furthermore Irene Santos gave a message to citizens about "this campaign is just one example that there are other solutions rather than abandon a dog on the street and we are ready 24 hours a day."
The German NGO representative explained the work of the association and the objective of this campaign has been to avoid animal abandonment, solving the problem at source, as proposed by the TNCs.
In Jumilla, 75% of stray animals so far this year no more than five months old and are the result of unwanted litters of individuals who do not control the reproduction of their pets and then not take care of the offspring.
According to campaign officials, the response has been very good Jumillano and veterinarians have been carried out between 35 and 40 operations a day.
The organization, the information campaign and the cleaning has been the most important work done by volunteers from 4 feet Jumilla.
In this project we have benefited from animal welfare and collaborators Totana, Murcia, Molina, Mula and Cotillas Towers and municipalities in other provinces and Villena, Ibi and Tobarra.
TNC makes this project in countries throughout Europe.
The next place to work will visit Romania.
Jumilla 4 feet Association has begun work as early as next project of similar characteristics to once again take place in April 2011.
TNCs are currently preparing with the training of veterinarians in Jumilla with the techniques used by veterinarians who have come to the project.
The aim is to achieve a working model that allows them to become increasingly independent and avoid that, as in most hostels or shelters, economic hardship or saturation of resources ends with the provision of this service.
The project, with a budget of about 20,000, is funded entirely by the TNCs and has performed with the permission of the City of Jumilla, in the Municipal Animal Shelter Abandoned.
Microchips for half price
On the other hand, the Association Jumilla '4 legs' during the month of July, is subsidizing the pet microchip implantation cost half the amount.
15 euros for all pet owners can meet this legal requirement under the Municipal Ordinance tenure Jumilla pet.
Only have to approach the municipality veterinary clinics, which assist in the second edition of the "No", which aims to convince that an animal without a microchip is completely helpless and that, moreover, violates the law.
Grant is expected to reach 100 pets, the same as in 2009.

The City assumes maintenance of the shelter, the worker, feed and other veterinary costs.
For its part, the association and the selfless work all hours, for all its members assume the cost of materials, other veterinary expenses, travel, animals, blankets, kennels and other tools and materials they need.
And above all, work to find a new family abandoned animals that meets all the conditions necessary to ensure animal welfare throughout his life.

As sources of funding, mainly from members' shares, money paid by adoptive parents for adoptions to cover, occasional grants from companies like Pedigree or Affinity with grants for protective lines.
For example, Pedigree took 300 kilos of feed last year and now will be asked to help put Affinity another one of the rooms of the hostel as a treatment room with everything you need.
The inner workings of the hostel is approved by the City.
There are several protocols that are, in terms of adoptions, center entries, exits, registration requests of citizens, labor, etc.
In this model are reflected all cases and cases that may occur in the shelter and how to act.
The management model is called 'sacrifice 0', a shelter is not a kennel, in the latter is sacrificed to spend a few days or when there is no room, however at the lodge just give up when a veterinarian certifies that there is no solution and to prevent animal suffering.
