The 'Project Re-inhabit', carried out by the company Zima Desarrollos Integrales, has been the winner of the ideas competition to improve the Botanical Garden of La Estacada, convened by the City of Jumilla.
The award consists of the commitment by the City Council of the award of the basic and execution project, as well as the direction of the works and coordination of safety and health, when it is decided to execute the idea.
The winning project proposes subtle interventions in cornered garden areas so they can be revived.
Spaces will emerge that provoke the feeling of returning to inhabit that known place, although with the strangeness of doing it in a different way.
New areas of recreation with a certain pedagogical character appear on these axes.
It will emphasize aspects as characteristic regionally as are the vine or some natural habitats that reproduce in Jumilla.
It is proposed to give more presence to the main access through a monolithic concrete screen, with a large format identification plan.
Likewise, an acoustic screen and perimeter fence would be created to create a calm and recreational environment.
The pond will gain prominence, preventing it from remaining as it is now, isolated for the visitor due to a large mass of vegetation that grows around it.
In addition, different accessibility actions will be carried out and a purification system will be created through a biological filter.
It also proposes the creation of playful and informative, children's, sports and creative areas, as well as sensory garden and wine area.
It would also take into account a new classification and organization of the different botanical varieties, treatment of existing ones and inclusion of new species.
A new irrigation system would be designed for the entire park.
The estimated budget for the completion of the entire project is 520,000 euros.
The jury of the contest was composed by Francisco González, Councilor for Works and Urbanism, Juan Manuel Pérez, municipal agricultural technical engineer, Herminio Poveda, technical architect and former head of the Technical Service of Works and Urban Planning, Manuel Bernal, technical secretary of the Official College Agricultural Technical Engineers of the Region of Murcia, Antonio Garcia, municipal gardener and Francisco Martinez, councilor of the Municipal Group of PP, as well as chaired by the mayor of Jumilla, Juana Guardiola.
