The ninth edition of the Sports Gala of Jumilla delivered last night at the Vico Theater eleven prizes, highlighting the good health of the local sport during the year that ends.
The event, organized by the Department of Sports, began with the words of the councilor of the area, Juan Manuel Garcia, who highlighted the values ​​of the winners, as well as other clubs and athletes of the land that are at the highest level.
The Sportsman of the Year award went to Vicente Guardiola, Spain's champion of combined events this year, in addition to being international with the Spanish team in the promotion to the European Super League.
The Coimbra Chess Club collected through its director of the School, Pascual Castellanos, the Club of the Year award for his tireless work in promoting this sport in the town, achieving during this year 2017 a historic milestone.
Alejandro Castellanos was proclaimed absolute regional champion, unprecedented success in the town.
The Young Promise award went to the athlete Angela Carrión, who already accumulates three silver medals of the Spanish Championships, to which the junior bronze team is added in the National March on Route of El Hierro with the Murcia delegation and the tenth absolute position in the 10,000 meters march.
The Sports Event of the Year award went to the Fit Kid Interregional Championship held in June in Jumilla and brought together almost 400 athletes, creating a unique atmosphere in the stands, which demonstrates the continued growth of this sport in the town.
It was picked up by trainer Marta Terol and it was the girls of the Jumilla Fitness Association who entertained the gala with several performances of components of their competition team.
This year also premiered the Event Award with the highest projection, which was awarded to the Barbudico Trail and was picked up by the race director, Juan Palao.
This test in just two editions has been able to transmit the passion for mountain races in the smallest of the town.
The company J. García Carrión received in the hands of María Jesús Cruz the Collaborative Company Award, as a signature that is not lacking in the great events of Jumillano sport being part of the different products of the bags with which the participants are gratified.
The Gesta Deportiva del Año Award went to the Aspajunide futsal team in this edition, which was proclaimed second runner-up in Spain in its maximum category for the second consecutive year.
The staff almost complete, led by the head of sports activities, Avelino González, picked up the award.
One of its components received another recognition at an individual level, premiering the Adapted Sportsman Award category.
This is Antonio Ramos, captain and team leader, exceptional player who stands out above the rest in all regional and national events in which the team is present.
Another of the new categories was the Veteran Sportsman Award, which was won by Angel Lencina, eight times consecutive Spanish duathlon cross champion, one more duathlon on the road, to which his two gold medals are united in the European Championship, a bronze in a world championship.
The doctor in Psychology Juan González was awarded the Special Mention 2017 for his excellent work in sports.
He has worked at Elche CF and is currently a professor at the University of Granada.
He is a sports psychologist of different individual athletes and high level teams, also promoting the sports practice of young people.
There was also a surprise prize, which had not been previously announced.
He gave himself to the head of the Sports area, Francisco Crespo, for his life dedicated to sport, always at the bottom of the canyon, concerned about the proper functioning and maintenance of all the facilities of the municipality and sports competitions that are held.
The mayor of Jumilla, Juana Guardiola, congratulated the winners and also remembered the current successes of other Jumillano athletes awarded in other editions.
Also, he recalled part of the work done this year that has culminated with the reopening of the San Francisco Pavilion after almost four years closed, the new lighting of the La Hoya Municipal Sports Center, the new material purchased for the athletics track, the progress of the works of the new Olympic pool or the improvements of the training park of the Botanical Garden of La Estacada, among others.
