The value of the scam amounts to more than 10,000 euros
The investigation continues open so it is not excluded that there are more harmed
The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has developed an investigation aimed at clarifying some alleged scams, committed through an insurance brokerage in Jumilla, fruit of which a person has been arrested as an alleged perpetrator of a continuing crime of fraud.
So far, fifty people have been identified as injured, although it is not excluded that there will be more cases.
The investigation began when a citizen reported to the Civil Guard an alleged fraud in the contracting of the insurance policy of his vehicle, through a brokerage located in the municipality of Jumilla.
The alarm was triggered when the injured party was informed by a Corps patrol that he lacked the compulsory insurance of his vehicle, at which point he found out that the policy he had hired had not been discharged by the insurer for non-payment.
Through this first victim, the researchers found out that the insurance was contracted through an insurance agent, who had an office in the municipality, from where he managed the contracting of policies with a well-known and prestigious insurance company.
Collaboration of the insurance company
The Civil Guard contacted this merchant, who collaborated in the identification of other alleged victims, with the contribution of about 600 files that were analyzed by the Benemérita, which allowed detecting fifty customers who, through the Jumilla brokerage investigated, they had contracted policies that were never discharged.
The modus operandi used consisted in the selection of clients, mainly foreign citizens with scarce economic resources, to which it offered juicy policies.
Some of them were in the region doing agricultural work, as seasonal workers, so their location, scattered throughout the national territory, has made research difficult.
Apparently, the now arrested person charged in cash to avoid bank income that would attest to the economic transaction.
The client obtained the insurance contract, but the money did not reach the insurance company so, after the corresponding period of courtesy, was discharged.
The injured, after paying the corresponding fee, remained in the belief of being in possession of an insurance in force until, for any need occurred, when presenting parts by accident or claiming other services guaranteed in the contract, they found out that their vehicle did not I was insured.
According to the investigation, the detainee now secured a vehicle when the owner claimed an incident to prevent detection of the deception.
The fraud would exceed 10,000 euros
It is estimated that the economic damage caused to the victims, both by the payment of fraudulent policies and by the expenses derived from the assistance provided by towing services, fines for absence of compulsory insurance, etc., amounts to more than 10,000 euros.
In addition and due to this deception, the corporate image of the insurance company has been impaired.
Once gathered the statements of the injured and gathered the necessary documentation, the Civil Guard has arrested a male, Spanish, 38 years and neighbor of Jumilla as an alleged perpetrator of continued crime of fraud.
The detainee and the proceedings ordered have been made available to the Juzgado de Instrucción No. 2 of Jumilla (Murcia).
