The rehabilitation works of the Snow Pit of the Sierra de El Carche have already been completed.
The cost of these has been 107,000 euros and have consisted in the restoration of the same, as well as the adequacy of a section of path leading to the well.
The action has been undertaken by the Directorate General of Natural Environment.
It was in a state of ruin, with part of its vault collapsing.
For its recovery the same techniques and materials with which the original construction was carried out have been respected.
The well has an exterior height of 4 meters and a depth of 12 meters, and represents a historical and cultural vestige dating from the XVII to XVIII century.
The mayor of Jumilla, Juana Guardiola, has expressed her satisfaction for the "rehabilitation carried out within a regional park such as the Sierra del Carche".
Likewise, he added that the adequacy of the El Carche shelter is being finalized, "which is lacking in the cistern in order to make it available to visitors."
Juana Guardiola recalled the "importance for this area to build the access of the A-33 and the conditioning of the El Carche road, which is where you access this emblematic park, not only for the Jumillans, if not for Murcia. "
The director of the Natural Environment, Consuelo Rosauro, visited this morning the Pozo de la Nieve, noting that "this is an important rehabilitation because it has had to rebuild the entire vault, with all that implies, but has remained in its original state and with the necessary security for the visitors ".
