The group of councilors of the Popular Party has heard of the decision taken by the socialist municipal government, in connection with the extraordinary procession to be held next Saturday September 23, on the occasion of the XXX National Encounter of Holy Week Brotherhoods, which during these days is celebrated in our locality.
The decision consists of the prohibition to the hoteliers of our town of installing tables and chairs, for the consumption of the spectators of this extraordinary procession.
This prohibition is harmful in two of its dimensions:
In the first place, it fades the image of our Holy Week, which knows how to combine with respect the playful and spiritual aspects of an event of this type.
In Jumilla we have always been able to see the processions sitting at the table in a bar, so we do not understand why we should distort that image of our experiences, so festive and Mediterranean, so different from other places in Spain.
That is to distort reality, when showing our visitors how we live in Jumilla our beautiful Easter.
Secondly, that arbitrary decision goes against the honest interests of the bars and restaurants guild, which can and should provide a worthy service to both our visitors and the Jumillanos who want to enjoy this extraordinary event.
At the gates of autumn, when attendance at these catering tables falls considerably, this procession constitutes a work opportunity that should not be missed, and less for a decision as unfair as unreasonable and unfortunate.
For all this we urge the socialist government group to amend this decision, returning in their footsteps and allowing hoteliers to install their tables and chairs and serve the viewers of this historic moment of our Holy Week.
There are no reasons or arguments to maintain such a decision, but it is a whimsical trial.
We understand that there are no real reasons to maintain this prohibition and therefore we want to make public our rejection and denunciation of such a lamentable prohibition.
