The Regional Hemodonation Center encourages Jumillans to donate blood with the start-up of their summer collection campaign in the municipality, where the mobile units will be installed every Tuesday in August, starting tomorrow, from 5:30 a.m. 9:30 p.m.
Under the motto 'It's in our blood' tomorrow, this campaign will be presented at the Plenary Hall of Jumilla, at 11:00 p.m.
Jumilla has the highest donation rate in the Region.
In addition, on Tuesday 8 will be held a special day organized by the Federation of Peñas de la Vendimia in collaboration with the Regulatory Council of the Denomination of Origin Jumilla and the City.
Permanent campaign
People who want to donate blood can be informed of the days and times on the web www.murciasalud.es/crh.
The director of the Regional Hemodynamic Center, Vicente Vicente, stated that "this campaign is fundamental, since it allows new donors to be incorporated each year, that is, young people who are reaching the age of majority and can be blood donors."
The regularity of donations, said Dr. Vicente, is "vital" because blood is a living tissue that can not be preserved indefinitely, since its components are stored for a certain time and have an expiration date.
Thus, the maximum time for the use of platelets is only five days.
Donations make it possible for health professionals of the Murcian Health Service (SMS) to attend every day in the different health centers of the Region to about 200 patients who need a transplant, require surgical intervention or suffer oncological pathologies, among others.
To be a donor it is necessary to be between 18 and 65 years old, weigh more than 50 kilos and be in good health.
In this regard, Dr. Vicente said that "are requirements that most of the young people meet, so it is essential for the Regional Health to have their support."
The director of the Regional Hemodynamic Center concluded by stating that "donation is a simple, voluntary and painless act that contributes to saving lives," and invited all citizens, and especially the university community, to donate blood.
