Tonight a new treatment will begin against the red weevil in the palm trees of the parks and gardens of the urban center of Jumilla.
It will be done at night, with the start scheduled at 9:00 p.m. to finish at about 6:00 p.m. This year a first treatment had already been made at the end of March.
The objective is to avoid that the pest damages the palm trees, since the female is able to put 300 to 400 eggs.
The damages produced by such a high population are so severe that they end the life of the palm tree, for the larvae remain always inside the palm tree, from which they are feeding, while adults are responsible for reproductive multiplication and colonization Of new specimens, since they have the capacity to maintain sustained flights of between four and five kilometers.
