The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has developed the operation 'TORTRAK', an investigation aimed at locating and arresting the perpetrators of numerous thefts of agricultural vehicles in the Altiplano region, which has resulted in the arrest of six young, Of age, to which they are attributed the alleged authorship of a fortnight of robberies with force and subtraction of motor vehicle.
All of the stolen vehicles have been recovered: 11 tractors, two passenger cars and one moped.
The investigation began last June, when the Civil Guard was aware of the theft of three tractors on agricultural estates in the municipality of Jumilla.
In later dates other illicit of the same nature took place, which generated some social alarm among the group of farmers of the zone.
The coincidence of the type of vehicle subtracted and the proximity of the affected areas made suspicion to the agents that, after the authorship of these robberies could be a same group of people.
The discovery of several of these vehicles, in nearby rural areas, allowed to rule out that they were experienced criminals, dedicated to the subtraction of vehicles for sale or scrapping.
The Guardia Civil established a line of research centered on several local youths with police records and found that some of them, incidentally, were studying automotive in vocational training modules, which could be related to certain knowledge in the manipulation and the Handling of the vehicles, without the corresponding keys of start.
Tractors drove on makeshift four-by-four circuits
As a result of the investigations carried out, the Benemérita discovered the supposed purpose for which they were stolen: their driving as four-by-four vehicles in makeshift rural circuits where, once their journey was over, they left them with serious malfunctions and mechanical breakdowns.
Once obtained the necessary indications, the Benemérita has detained six young people, minors, as suspected perpetrators of the thefts of force robbery and subtraction of motor vehicle.
The investigation, developed by the Civil Guard during the last seven months, has allowed to know the modus operandi used to commit the robberies.
The members of the now dismantled criminal group were allegedly organized to carry out preliminary examinations of agricultural areas, with the aim of locating the vehicles and knowing the security measures used for their custody.
When their targets were selected, they fractured the perimeter fences or the agricultural warehouses (in some cases with the use of butrons on the roof), they bridged the electrical connections of the engine start and they went out, even embueling them against the doors, on the tractors.
On the other hand they established the places where, a posteriori, they moved to lead to open field, generally at dawn, like circuit four by four.
The Civil Guard has completed the operation 'TORTRAK' with the dismantling of a youth gang, whose six members have been arrested as alleged perpetrators of robbery with force and subtraction of motor vehicle.
A total of 15 heavy vehicle thefts and 14 motor vehicle thefts have been cleared in the town of Jumilla, with the recovery of all the vehicles stolen: 11 tractors, two passenger cars and a moped, which have been returned To its rightful owners.
In addition, a backpack has been used with a large number of tools and tools that, suspected, would have used those now detained to violate the access doors to agricultural vessels.
It is estimated that the damages caused could exceed 35,000 euros.
The arrested, the vehicles recovered and the investigations instructed have been made available to the Prosecutor's Office of Minors of Murcia.
