This morning the events and posters of the Carnival of Jumilla 2017 were presented at a press conference with the presence of the Councilor for Culture, Pilar Martínez, who was accompanied by Juan Carlos Torres, representing the Group of Unstable Theater, and the President and secretary of the AAVV of Calle del Calvario, Margarita Abellán and Paqui Pérez.
The activities will begin on Friday, February 24 at 8:00 pm in the Auditorium of the Conservatory of Music with the presentation of a chirigota created by the Association of Rural Women Fuente del Pino.
On Saturday 25, from 17:00, will be held the Carnival Parade, which will count on the participation of various groups, associations, schools, dance academies and day care centers.
As it was decided in meetings with the participants, the route is shortened with respect to the last year, with exit from Cánovas street, formation next to the street Pósito, and arrival to the street of the Calvary by Canónigo Lozano (it will not be by avenue of Yecla As originally agreed).
At the end of the parade there will be performance in the tent of the street of the Calvary of the chirigota Women Rurales Fuente del Pino and delivery of prizes to the participants in the parade.
In the evening, from 10.30 pm, the second edition of the Drag Queen Gala will be held in the courtyard of the Mercado de Abastos, an event being organized with the collaboration of Teatro Inestables and featuring the performance of Gina Boss and awards in Metallic for the best classified and more fun performance (300, 200, 100 and 100 euros).
Entries should be made preferably until Thursday 23 at festejos@jumilla.org, although they will be admitted in the gala itself.
On the following day, the traditional 'Domingo del Higuico' will be celebrated by the AAVV of Calvario, with the participation of the Friends of Jumilla Association and the Cultural Association Hypnos, which will perform the 'Soflamas Carnavaleras' from the 20 hours at the headquarters of Calle Marchante.
The parties will end with the classic Tuesday of Carnival and the usual parade of disguises around the tent installed in the street of Calvary.
The Councilor for Culture thanked the collaboration of all associations "who are getting the Carnival of Jumilla is increasingly large," as well as the companies that makes it possible to award prizes.
Paqui Pérez, of the AAVV Calle del Calvario, has encouraged the Jumillanos to take part in the Saturday parade "even without the need to be part of any association. It can participate everyone who wants and so we want it to be."
For his part, Juan Carlos Torres has said that "the Drag Queen Gala is preparing with great enthusiasm and more in view of the good criticism of last year." We would like the participation to increase and that people would not be ashamed. They're going to have a great time. "
