The Local Police of Jumilla is participating this week a new special campaign of monitoring and control of trucks and vans in compliance with the programming of the Campaigns and Operations of Monitoring and Control for the year 2017 carried out by the General Direction of Traffic.
Inspections are being carried out on vehicles (permits and documents, technical conditions and safety features, etc.) and on drivers (driving license, driving times and breaks and alcohol).
The driving of a van is not the same as that of a tourism, since the dynamic behavior is different, especially if it is loaded.
Load clamping is vital, any displacement of the load affects the stability of the vehicle by displacement of the center of gravity.
Among these types of vehicles, the incidence of road exits and overturns is higher than can be explained by the excessive or poor placement of the load.
The risk in driving trucks and vans is greater than in cars, because of the load they carry and less active and passive safety equipment.
In addition, the feeling of safety by the larger size of the vehicle, the lower speed and the elevation of the cabin makes the number of distractions greater and the use of a smaller safety belt.
There is also a greater risk for occupants of other vehicles and pedestrians, especially in urban areas.
In 2015, of the 483 deaths in traffic accidents involving trucks or vans, 68.53% of the dead were occupants of other vehicles or pedestrians, and this percentage rises to 87.65% in urban areas.
The DGT considers that the participation of city councils is fundamental for its success in this campaign, on the same dates and with the same objectives of monitoring, because it will contribute, in addition to helping to reduce the number of injured and deceased in traffic accidents , To have a more accurate idea of the incidence and its evolution at national level.
