The Governing Council has authorized the signing of a collaboration agreement between the Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment and the City of Jumilla for the implementation of actions to improve forests on mountains of public utility of this municipality and conditioning Carche hostel, funded from the Improvement Fund for an amount of 167,896 euros.
In the municipality of Jumilla exist about 33 mounts included in the Catalogue of public utility, covering an area of ​​32,950 ha.
Many of these mountains are in need of silvicultural treatments, such as pruning, thinning and other oriented forest fire prevention work.
With these treatments it contributes to the conservation and improvement of forest ecosystems, maintaining its biological potential, productive capacity and biodiversity, while regeneration of degraded mass is favored.
On the other hand, the hostel Regional Park El Carche is in a poor state of conservation due to the permanent use of their facilities by hikers and mountaineers, so precise repair of some elements (floor, walls and windows) and improving other (bathrooms, furniture, lighting), in order to ensure functionality and conservation.
The Forest Act provides that local entities holding classified mountains apply to fund improvements, whose destination is the conservation and improvement of the mountains included in the catalog of public utility, an amount to be determined by the communities and will not be less than 15 percent of the value of their forest harvesting or income derived by occupations or other activities on the mountain.
