The new waste transfer station built in Jumilla, will improve recycling, waste management and save costs.

The general director of Quality and Environmental Assessment, Encarna Molina, visited this morning by the mayor of the town, Juana Guardiola, facilities to formalize the delivery of the work.

The new infrastructure, located on the site of the old waste treatment plant of Jumilla, will reduce the volume of waste collected and transported in specific public treatment plants for proper management vehicles.

The works consisted of the construction of the plant of urban waste transfer incorporating a metal cover to reduce leachate.

The transfer station also has a scale to control the entry and exit of waste managed.

The Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment has made a total investment of 1,258,000 euros, financed cohesion funds.

A transfer plant arrive collection vehicles of municipal waste deposited material into a hopper of 30 cubic meters for compacting in a press, reducing the volume of waste to be transported bound plants for domestic waste.

The new station will receive mixed household waste from the gray container, which in 2015 accounted for 8,372 tons Jumilla, and waste collected separately as lightweight containers, which last year were 79.9 tons municipality.

This infrastructure, once delivered to the City of Jumilla, could be part of the facilities managed by the Consortium for Waste Management of the Region.

Encarna Molina stressed "the great progress experienced in the region over the last 15 years in the proper management of household waste, with the support of municipalities, managers and citizens, allowing the use of resources contained in waste, for which has an extensive network of municipal parks and public facilities. "

Specifically, he referred to investments exceeding 30 million euros, made in public plants Lorca, Cartagena, Ulea and Jumilla to improve rates of recovery of materials from the rest fraction and allocate them to the next phases of composting and recovery, and to improve control and quantification of waste arriving at such plants.

The challenge for the next five years is "to recycle up to 50 percent of the waste generated in our homes, because that is the goal set by the European Union, and thus is included in the integrated waste management plan that is finalizing the regional government. "

The Director General said "the important role of the citizen" as the first link in the chain, which contributes to their correct habits separation at home, they can obtain resources from waste, preventing them from ending up in inappropriate places where they pollute and facilitating are adequately addressed in plants intended for management, contributing to the maintenance and creation of employment.

Other investments in Jumilla

The autonomous region has made other investments in the municipality of Jumilla, sealing and environmental restoration of the vessels 1, 2 and 3 of the landfill and construction of the vessel 4 which has Integrated Environmental Authorisation.

This has involved a total investment of 2,783,120 euros.
