The Community Irrigation Miraflores could use water from the sewage treatment plant (29/06/2010)

Jumilla Mayor Francisco Abellán, with the president of the Community of Irrigators Miraflores Pedro Antonio Garcia met last week with the president of the Segura basin, Charo Quesada.

The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the proposed use and development of wastewater treatment plant Jumilla Station (STP) by the Community of Irrigators Miraflores.

This project, which would be involved the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture and Water, the Community of Irrigators and the city requires an investment of about four million euros, which raised the possibility of doing it in phases .

This issue will be addressed in the CHS and then keep another meeting with the Director General of Water Ministry, the president of the CHS, the general director of Irrigation, Julio Bernal, the Community of Irrigators Miraflores and the City in order decide how to carry out this project.

Back in July 2008, then president of the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura (CHS), José Salvador Fuentes Zorita, presented the award of the use of treated water from the WWTP of Jumilla in the Community of Irrigators Miraflores de Jumilla.

The annual volume of water granted is 1,500,000 cubic meters (m3).

This award, which is term of 75 years, formed part of the proceedings of the Water Programme, in which the reuse of treated wastewater and reclaimed, is a cornerstone in the fight against drought and to fully use available water resources.

Thus, the irrigators of Miraflores have a standby each year to irrigate their irrigable area (1,350 hectares) and will supplement the water drawn from wells in an aquifer that is in a state of overexploitation.

Therefore, the irrigable area will be the 1,110 m3/hectárea/año of wastewater, which already has a total of 4,415 m3/hectárea/año, in accordance with the provisions of the Plan of the Segura River Basin for the type area of cultivation and use is located.

The approved maximum flow is 140 liters per second.

Remodeling of the other side of the Rambla
