| It is going to act on the 400 oldest reels, which will represent some 14,000 snapshots that will be digitized | The Jumilla City Council has contracted the restoration work for part of the photographic archive of José Antonio Tomás, whose negatives were donated by the photographer himself and his family in 2013 and are currently in the Ethnography section of the Jerónimo Molina Museum.
Today they have been handed over by the Councilor for Culture, Pilar Martínez, to the company that is going to be in charge of carrying out the restoration, accompanied by the head of the Culture area of ??the City Council, Andrés Martínez, and the director of the Museum of Ethnography and Sciences, Cayetano Herrero. Some 400 photographic reels will be performed, cleaning each of them as well as smoothing, dividing and adapting the negatives to a suitable storage system for their conservation.
Likewise, each of the photographs will be digitized, which will involve some 14,000 snapshots that cover the history of the municipality in the mid-20th century.
"This is part of its great legacy and we are going to start by restoring the oldest reels because their state of conservation is worse," said Councilor for Culture, Pilar Martínez. The works will be carried out by the conservation and restoration company of documentary, bibliographic, archive and photographic heritage Conservado, at a cost of 14,883 euros.
The restoration is expected to be completed before the end of 2020.
