Among the main advantages of religious tourism is its high degree of loyalty and its ability to generate multiple synergies with other products
The Region of Murcia currently has four Holy Weeks declared of International Tourist Interest.
Jumilla's has been the last to obtain this recognition and adds, together with those of Lorca, Cartagena and Murcia, the main attractions of the regional product of religious tourism.
Therefore, from the Ministry of Tourism this year the promotional actions of the religious product will be duplicated mainly aimed at the projection of the 'Camino de la Vera Cruz' and Caravaca de la Cruz, and the dissemination of the attractions and experiences to be carried out in the destinations which host the four Holy Weeks of International Tourist Interest in the Region of Murcia.
"Thus, and under the name 'Region of Murcia Sacra', the religious tourism project of the regional government will be consolidated as a great tourist attraction at national and international level," said the Minister of Tourism, Youth and Sports, Cristina Sánchez, during the ceremony of 'Delivery of Honorable Mentions 2020' of Jumilla, which distinguished the local, regional and religious institutions that have collaborated to obtain the declaration of International Tourist Interest of the Jumillana Holy Week, which has six centuries of tradition.
Cristina Sánchez highlighted the joint work carried out, since 2015, by the Central Board of Brotherhoods of Jumilla and the Ministry, through the Tourism Institute;
a collaboration that allowed obtaining this recognition on May 17.
It is a "exemplary and meritorious" collaboration, said the counselor.
"To prove it, you just have to come to feel the passion that the Jumillanos give off during the celebration of their Holy Week, which attracts thousands of visitors, national and international, to this municipality."
He also recalled the possibilities that religious tourism offers in the Region, both in terms of seasonality, as it helps to ensure the flow of visitors throughout the year, as well as the revitalization of cities and the interior.
Cristina Sánchez stressed that, among the main advantages of religious tourism, "stands out its high degree of loyalty and its ability to generate multiple synergies with other products, such as cultural, ecotourism and inland tourism", and gave as an example the 'Way de la Vera Cruz 'presented at the International Tourism Fair of Madrid (Fitur 2020) by the president of the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras.
"Those who make the Camino, upon arriving in the Region, will enjoy a rich heritage complemented by a great landscape, cultural and gastronomic diversity, as well as traditional festivals of great territorial roots as it happens, at any point in the Region, when the Holy Week, "said the counselor.
