This week the candidate search process has begun for the third time to access the scholarship offered by the Jumilla PDO to study at the Basque Culinary Center in San Sebastián.
A training action that is intended to consolidate within the promotional actions of the denomination, and its commitment to the training of young generations.
The entities that have confirmed their involvement in this candidacy process are both educational, sectoral and institutional;
Among its collaborators, there is the Academy of Gastronomy of Murcia, through its association of hospitality entrepreneurs in Murcia, the Association of hoteliers of Albacete, and its namesake in Murcia, the Integrated Training and Agricultural Experiences Center of Jumilla ( CIFEA), the Tourism Qualification Center of Murcia (CCT), hospitality schools and Vocational Training degrees, such as the Integrated Public Training Center for Hospitality Training of Cartagena, or the Labor University of Albacete.
This year, for the first time, the El Sembrador Hospitality School, managed by the Fundación El Sembrador and Caritas Albacete, joins the selection to expand the opportunities of people at risk of exclusion.
The sommelier is a discipline that can be accessed from various fields, and from the Regulatory Council they try to gather a selection of varied profiles, ranging from agronomic engineering to hospitality and winemaking schools.
There is no specific profile and it is the institutions themselves that decide their selection proposals based on the real candidates they may have.
From the Jumilla PDO, the creation of a special program and the signing of agreements with these entities will be launched to offer guarantees and consolidate the collaboration in long-distance actions so that it is raised in the promotional communication of the schools and entities themselves who participate in the candidate selection process.
A person with a passion for wine and viticulture is sought, who wants to train and learn, and become an ambassador for PDO Jumilla;
Although it is not essential, it is intended to bet on young people who belong to the PDO territory, to support local development and in particular the territory of the denomination, which brings together part of Murcia and Albacete.
There are several objectives that this action pursues.
On the one hand, the Regulatory Council intends to participate in a formation dialogue with the new generations and to value the sommelier figure and its activity.
It also works for the positioning of the native grape of the area, the Monastrell and its potential assemblies with the rest of the grapes authorized in this PDO.
The Regulatory Council wants to place the demand of Jumillas at the top of the Spanish wine map and that the consumer in Spain values satisfying their palate with wines of marked personality, incredible aromas and fruits, and that add value to the category of red wines of Spain .
The final process for selecting candidates will take place at the headquarters of the Regulatory Council in Jumilla (Murcia), next December 12, and will have a multisectoral table formed by different representatives.
This selection will consist of personal interviews with each of the candidates, and the place of not finding a suitable candidate may be deserted.
The level of studies required by the Basque Culinary Center is demanding, long tasting sessions, trips and studies intermingle in the usual activity of the course.
Thus, candidates who receive their diploma with advantage are waiting for a great future and high specialization in the sommelier sector internationally.
This Master's degree that began on January 10, 2020, and lasts 6 months, is taught at the Basque Culinary Center in San Sebastián, and students must complete curricular practices with a duration of 3 months.
These practices will be offered by Jumilla PDO so that the candidate can continue to expand their experience while contributing to the promotion team of the PDO itself and its wineries.
