The Jumilla Wines Protected Designation of Origin expects to reach 70 million kilos of grape production during the current campaign, according to the first estimates.
This has been verified by the Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Environment, Antonio Luengo, during his visit this morning to a vineyard in the municipality where he has been able to see first-hand the vintage works that are being taken to cape.
Luengo explained that currently "we have reached the vintage equator, which began with the early varieties in mid-August, and a week ago began the Monastrell grape, which accounts for 70 percent of the Jumilla PDO grape" .
Approximately 60 percent has been collected, which is already about 42 million kilos.
As for the total grape that is expected to collect "the production this year will be reduced by 10 percent over last year, due to the worsening of the weather conditions, since there have been hardly any rains since the first quarter of the year" .
However, Luengo said, "this year's grape is of great quality, much better than last year, which makes us very optimistic about the result of the season for the sector in the Region of Murcia."
After visiting the vineyard, the advisor made a tour of the Xenysel Winery, "an example of how a family winery can grow and become a reference thanks to a job where the latest technology in development is combined with the traditional aging in new oak barrels French and American, "said Luengo.
