The mayor of Jumilla, Juana Guardiola, and the pastor of the Greater Parish of Santiago, Manuel De la Rosa, have held a meeting with the Director General of Cultural Property, Rafael Gómez, with the aim of requesting economic collaboration from the Regional Ministry of Culture of the Autonomous Community for the restoration of the church organ.
Also present at the meeting were components of the commission created for this purpose, Juan Calabuig and Pedro García, the organ professor of the Higher Conservatory of Music of Murcia, Javier Artigas, as well as Carlos Rafael Pérez, president of the Merklin Association of Friends of the Organ of the Region of Murcia.
The organ was built at the beginning of the 19th century and is considered one of the most important in the Spanish Levante.
It had 2,117 tubes, spread over two keyboards and a total of 55 media records.
Its rehabilitation could cost more than 200,000 euros.
This is the only body that was left out of the Historic Organ Restoration Program of the Region of Murcia that began in 2006.
