The City Council of Jumilla, through its mayor Juana Guardiola, has signed the collaboration agreement with the Convent of the Franciscan Friars of Santa Ana del Monte de Jumilla, through the guardian father, Francisco Oliver, which will receive a 12,000 euros subsidy provided for in the 2019 General Budget.
The amount is destined to the restoration of the size of the Christ Moored to the Column, the work of the sculptor Francisco Salzillo, according to the project of the restorer Natalia Carcelén and whose restoration will take place at the headquarters of the brotherhood.
For the follow-up of this process, a commission formed by the mayor, the Councilor for Culture, the guardian father, the president of the Brotherhood of the Moored Christ and a technical specialist in art or restoration has been created.
The size of the image was already restored in 1985, although at that time it was in a worse state.
Given the need for a new action, the Jumilla City Council, aware of the need and urgency of this image and what it represents for the people of Jumilla, has decided to join efforts to carry out said project.
The estimated period of completion of restoration work will be approximately four months.
The Brotherhood of Christ opens Friday at 9:00 p.m., a museum in honor of its founder of this brotherhood, Roque Molera Rivera, at the headquarters of his brotherhood located on Barón del Solar street.
