The mayor of Jumilla, Juana Guardiola, and the Councilor for International Cooperation, Lola Gómez, along with several councilors of the municipal corporation have received this morning in the plenary hall of the City Council the five Saharawi children welcomed this summer in the city through of the Vacation in Peace Program.
They are between 10 and 12 years old and arrived in Jumilla on July 4 from different refugee camps located in different wilayas (provinces) of Algeria, being expected to stay in the municipality with their host families until next 4 of September.
Juana Guardiola has welcomed Jumilla to both minors and their host families and has ensured that "the experience will be unforgettable for both them and their families," highlighting the links that are created among all, "that they remain for a lifetime ".
Likewise, he has encouraged that in the future there will be a greater number of Jumillanos who join the program and increase the number of Saharawis who spend the summer in the municipality.
For her part, the Councilor for International Cooperation and Volunteering, Lola Gómez, thanked the host families for their solidarity and the Sarisaui Smile Association that "one more year, and they are already 21, start their Peace Vacations program in Jumilla ".
Both the mayor and the councilwoman of the area have agreed to offer the support of the City of Jumilla to the extent possible.
In this sense, at the end of last year a grant of 1,635 euros was granted to collaborate with this project, within the 20,000 euros that since 2017 are allocated to international cooperation and whose call is also planned for this exercise.
