Jumilla is one of the municipalities in the Region of Murcia that is betting more in recent years for accessibility and support for people with disabilities.
In 2015, the City Council launched the Municipal Plan for the Elimination of Architectural Barriers and since then more than 200,000 euros have been invested with this objective through more than 200 actions on the walkways, overpasses, adequacy of toilets and gardens, as well as adaptation of public buildings, installation of cranes for people with reduced mobility.
To this end, a commission was created in which the Amfiju and Aspajunide associations participate, which contribute different proposals for their experience.
Likewise, several collaboration agreements are signed annually with the groups that have users with different disabilities.
Amfiju receives 20,000 euros, while Aspajunide has a support of 15,000 euros per year since 2016.
On the other hand, the City Council of Jumilla signed in 2017 an agreement whereby several Aspajunide users are currently with a contract of practice in different services of the local administration.
International Day of Persons with Disabilities
On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities celebrated today, Amfiju and Aspajunide associations have carried out the so-called Disability Route with which they intend to raise awareness of the difficulties faced daily by people with mobility problems and At the same time, visualize all the progress that has been achieved in the municipality through the Plan for the Elimination of Architectural Barriers, as well as all that still remains to be improved.
The president of Amfiju, Salvador Simón, has read the manifesto for universal accessibility in buildings and cities.
