The mayor of Jumilla, Juana Guardiola, and representatives of the three municipal political groups received this morning in the plenary hall of the City Council the five Sahrawi children welcomed this summer in the city through the Vacation in Peace Program, which celebrates two decades in the town.
Juana Guardiola has welcomed both the children and their host families in Jumilla and has remembered with emotion the years in which she has had Sahrawi in her family.
"They learn a lot from us, but families also learn a lot from them," he assured.
The Saharawi sub-delegate in Murcia, Bekia Mohamed Bachir, has stressed that "behind every Saharawi child there is a different story" and has indicated that the collaboration of host families is "fundamental for them to see that the world is not what they live in. the camps ".
Ginés Vergara, vice president of the Saharawi Smile Association, thanked the families and the City Council for their efforts.
"It will be something unforgettable for the rest of your lives," he said.
For its part, the Councilor for International Cooperation and Volunteering, Lucía Jiménez, recalled that this afternoon an exhibition opens in the Ethnography and Science section of the Jerónimo Molina Museum under the title '20 years of holidays in peace ', with a table colloquium in which components of the host families will participate.
