The Mayor of Jumilla, Juana Guardiola, and the Councilor for Works and Urban Planning, Francisco González, presented this morning the new tourist trail that connects Cantarerías street with the Subidor al Castillo.
It has a length of 230 meters and has been built with the same characteristics as the existing one that gives access to the Castle, with 1.5 meters wide, concrete pavement and with a rope railing.
"The objective is to recover this historical environment of Jumilla, since not so long ago all the cave-houses were inhabited and now it had become an almost inaccessible place", commented the mayor.
The work has been done by hand, since it is a very difficult place for access to machinery, which is why they have been carried out by four of the long-term unemployed workers hired by the City Council through the Local Public Employment Program.
The total cost has been around 50,000 euros.
They have removed all sick paleras, as well as the bushes and multiple debris that had deposited that area of the slope of the Castle.
Next, several abandoned cave houses have been walled up.
"It is a new option to access the Castle for the enjoyment of hikers and tourists, which has also been repopulated with different trees and hypoallergenic plants to comply with the motion recently submitted by the PP," said the councilor, Francisco González , which has also offered all the technical data of the work.
Similarly, the City of Jumilla has been doing other cleaning and debris in the First District, in the adjoining areas of Cantarerías streets, Acerica and the path of the Subidor al Castillo, which will now continue through the rest of the districts.
