The center for older people in Jumilla exposes the work of bobbins, clothing, crafts, esparto and ceramics that their associates have made in the courses and workshops that have been developed throughout the year and that have had 1,047 participants.
The Minister of Family and Equality of Opportunities, Violante Tomás, opened the center's exhibition today.
Specifically, there are 25 different activities that include 47 groups in total, of which 19 are paid instructors and the remaining 28 volunteer monitors, who are elderly people from the center itself.
One of the fundamental parts of active aging is to encourage the participation of the elderly in society. Violante Tomás explained that "older people like to feel useful and our obligation is to make it so.
Maturity is a good stage of life to help, it is when you have learned the most, when you have to contribute the most and when we have to learn the most from them.
Therefore, it is a stage in which participating, giving opinions, being heard and collaborating with others is fundamental.
One of the great tasks on the part of the elderly is that of volunteering, it is a side that we believe greatly encourages their insertion in society. "
The regional government promotes healthy aging, which promotes personal autonomy, integration and full participation, through the activities programmed in its 17 centers, which have more than 100,000 members.
This year more than 350 workshops on gymnastics, crafts, poetry, theater, intergenerational exchanges and painting, among others, are planned.
