The Mayor of Jumilla Valcárcel asked, urgently, to develop the Status of Murcia and protect the transfer (22/04/2010)

Jumilla mayor and member of the Socialist parliamentary group in the Senate calls Abellán Francisco Valcarcel, with urgency, the submission and approval of the new Statute of Autonomy of the Region of Murcia, with which to ensure water for future Murcia .

He has also publicly praised José Manuel Claver, chairman of the Central Union Irrigation Tajo Segura (SCRATS), "for his positive and conciliatory attitude in defense of water and transfer to Murcia."

Abellán makes this request, following the latest developments affecting the Tajo Segura, following the withdrawal by Barreda, of the Statute of Castilla La Mancha to not get support in Congress.

In this situation, Abellán believes that "it is time to remove the dialectic of war and confrontation on water and look to the interests of the region.

Once the status of Castilla La Mancha has not passed the filter of Congress, Murcia we have a great historic opportunity ahead. "

In this way, "as a mayor who needs water for its people and as a member of the Socialist parliamentary group in the Senate, I ask, with urgency, the President Valcárcel and its parliamentary group that has an absolute majority, which immediately expedite the drafting a new status for the Community of Murcia, which protects the Tajo Segura, where we decide what model of region we want, what competencies are those which demand and how we want to ensure water, Tajo Segura and transfers from other communities "says the Mayor of Jumilla.

The socialist politician says that "this work is the responsibility of Valcárcel, as president, and majority of its parliamentary group and also, I think, is going to have the support of other parliamentary groups."

Abellán gives an example: "When you see that your home is at risk it does is protect, so when we saw that Murcia has been an aggression on the part of Castilla La Mancha to take away a right established as the transfer, we stop mourn, take the initiative to protect and measures establishing guarantees for anyone to usurp our rights. "

Jumilla's highest authority concludes that "with this situation, I ask the President of the Autonomous Community, as a citizen and mayor urge the drafting, submission and approval at the Regional Assembly, the new Statute of Autonomy with such guarantees ".
