The Platform for the Defence and Public Health Improving the Altiplano requests the establishment of a local board of health (02/11/2009)

The Platform for the Defence and Public Health Improvement of Yecla, Jumilla Altiplano and the Association of Relatives and Yecla Mentally Ill (AFEMY), in collaboration with the Association of Patients with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Jumilla and the Department of Health, held a rally last Friday in Jumilla, in order to discuss the health situation in the region and the Altiplano.

One of the conclusions was the need to establish a Local Health Council, which are addressed by the health care demands of this region to be made jointly between Jumilla and Yecla.

The event, held in the classroom culture of Caja Murcia, attended by about fifty people, including Councilman José Luis Monreal Health and the Mayor of Jumilla.

Francisco Abellán, in his speech, praised such initiatives "them because they are informed citizens to have a precise knowledge of these diseases, as well as shortcomings in health care."

He also explained what are the mental illness and weight in today's society.

The psychiatrist also touched on the myths and preconceptions and misconceptions that are on them.

At the end of his speech, attendees asked the doctor about various topics such as treatment with depression and 'vulnerability' of rights that people who suffer.

Diego José Palao Vidal is executive director of the Center for Mental Health 'Parc Tauli' of Sabadell and has been involved in ambitious projects within the Catalan public health in favor of disease and mental health.
